Organisational background and scope of work
Institute for Community Development in Zimbabwe (ICODZIM) is a woman founded and led organization currently operating in Masvingo and Midlands provinces of Zimbabwe. ICOD Zim was formed in 2015 and completed registration as a Trust in 2017 and is registered under the Deeds offices with its registration number being MA0000613/2017. Our targets are women and young women with disabilities, in rural, commercial farm and mining communities. ICOD Zim recognizes that women and girls are not a homogeneous group such that their needs are different depending with age, social, economic and political environment, geographical location, level of education. Even among women and girls with disability their vulnerabilities and inequalities also depend on the nature of disability, income levels, level of education age and geographical location. ICOD Zimbabwe seeks to promote and advance women’s rights and pays special attention to the rights of women with disabilities. The organisation aims to empower women in their diversities economically, politically and socially through amplifying their voices in all local and national processes, creating platforms for engagement, advocacy and capacity building. The organisation focuses on creating platforms and community centred interventions which support women to effectively participate in the socio-economic and political processes and realise their full potential by promoting democracy and good governance. Our mission is “To empower, promote and protect the rights of women including young women with disabilities through creating platforms for engagement, advocacy, and capacity building of various community women groups”
